Energy & Renewables

We have a unique international energy disputes practice ranging from oil and gas to coal and renewables. Having acted for a diverse range for stakeholders in the energy industry such as governments, National Oil Companies (NOCs), International Oil Companies (IOCs) and other energy producers, we are keenly attuned to the constantly fluctuating energy market and are able to advise our clients on risk management and dispute settlement.

Our experience includes:

  • Acting for an Indonesian entity in a complex dispute arising out of a gas sales agreement involving regulatory compliance, contractual claims and interrelated court proceedings, valued at US$500 million.

  • Acting for an Indian conglomerate against an Austrian company in an ICC arbitration involving an aborted wind energy project in India and a Malaysian company in challenging the jurisdiction of the arbitral tribunal in an ICC arbitration involving Qatari law.

  • Acting for a large State-owned strategic naval vessel builder against a foreign contractor in respect of a dispute arising out of a strategic collaboration agreement to build floating power-generating ships.

  • Advising an Indonesian and Indian joint venture against an American contractor in an ICC arbitration in relation to a coal mining project in Indonesia.

  • Representing an oil company in negotiations in respect of a US$50 million dispute relating to default under a Joint Operating Agreement.

  • Acting for a South Asian State-owned entity in respect of a dispute relating to purchase of a vessel.

  • Assisting a P&I Club in an investigation concerning an explosion on board a LNG vessel which was passing through the Straits of Singapore.
